VISION Learning Systems Architecture depends upon having a supply of consistently designed
Independent Learning Objects to deploy. To maintain consistency, each Independent Learning Object
has a built-in learning strategy.
You can think of VISION’s built-in learning strategies like this: It is as if each Independent
Learning Object has a “resident instructor” standing ready to present the content to your learners
in the best possible way.
|
 |
To maintain consistency and effectiveness, all learning objects contain the following instructional
components:
- Introduction
- Main Idea
- Explanation
- Examples/Demonstrations
- Practice/Practice Feedback
|
Together, this series of instructional components comprise a learning strategy that varies
depending upon the type of content contained in the learning object.
Each instructional component fulfills a specific purpose in the learning strategy.
- The Introduction orients the learner to the purpose and value of the content
- The Main Idea states the content contained in the learning object in its most concise form
- The Explanation elaborates on the Main Idea, providing more information on each point
- The Examples/Demonstrations allow the learner to experience a realistic sample of the Main Idea without requiring any interaction
- The Practice and Practice Feedback allow the learner to apply the Main Idea in a realistic setting, and find out how well they performed
Depending upon the type of content, these components may appear with different formats, but their
instructional purpose remains the same for all content.

Does everyone in your organization want to learn in exactly the same way? Likely not.
Some want to be “hand held” throughout the session, experiencing each step of learning in order,
just as it is presented. Others are quite eager to skip ahead--- trying to “get to the right answer”---
then they go through the teaching only if they absolutely need it.
VISION’s integrated learning strategies allow you to satisfy these varied learning preferences by
giving learners total control over their learning experience. VISION provides learners as much
guidance as they need, and puts some learners completely in the driver’s seat---if that’s where they
want to be.
Now, imagine you are the training manager with a big load of training development
work ahead of you. You have several developers working for you, each with a quota of lessons to
develop. Wouldn’t it be useful to know exactly how big each assignment should be, and how long it
should take a typical developer to complete the work? |
